Report from Eldey: The sun stayed with us all afternoon and the sea was very calm. An excellent weather for October. Just about 20 minutes from the harbour we encountered a minke whale. It was a very short sighting but very good for the people who saw it as it was only just 50 metres from the boat. Further out at sea we encountered a small pod of white-beaked dolphins (about 5 individuals). We followed them for a little while and got some very good sightings. We left them and travelled further west, in search for other species and stopped for a bit to admire the swooping Northern Gannets where we encountered some white-beaked dolphins again, possibly the same pod as there was the same number. On our way back, very close to land, we saw a humpback whale. We stayed a little bit longer on this trip to make sure that everyone got a good glimpse of the whale, and we did get rewarded with a beautiful sight of the diving flukes. Overall a very succeful trip!

Report from Eldey: The weather was glorious today after yesterday's challenging sea. Sun was shining and the wildlife was ready for a whale watching day. Just 15 minutes of leaving the harbour passing the islands of Engey and Akurey we saw our first sightings of 4-5 harbour porpoises they were fast surfacing under circling birds. it took us then about 50 minutes of the next sighting of a humpback whale and as soon as the humpback was spotted a minke whale. We later found that the humpback whale was one named 'Kilimandjaro' an individual first encountered last year in July. We were able to follow the humpback for over 40 minutes, taking long dives (10 minutes) inbetween. Still it showed its beautiful tail many times. We saw another 10-15 harbour porpoises in this area to, they even came just 5-10 meters from our boat so we can follow them under the surface. We also saw another 2 scattered minkes, one very close to land, 20 minutes from the harbour. A very lovely morning at sea.
