Tour at 13:00

Report from Elding: It was a lovely afternoon to be going out today. The wind was calm and the sea accordingly flat. We had some very long waves that were more fun than anything else. We encountered 2 minke whales during our tour in two different locations. Both of them were feeding in the bay and were surfacing very predictably and often. The second minke we encountered was very impressive though, as it was feeding together with around 40 northern gannets diving into the water all around us. It came very close to the boat numerous times. To top it all off the scenery with two beautiful rainbows, one above Esja and one above Akranes, made the way back to the harbour picture perfect.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsulan: The was calm and the sky overcast, excellent condition to spot whales! About half an hour away from land a minke whale appeared. After a short while we carried on further out and twenty minutes later we came accross a small pod of harbour porpoises (5 to 10 individuals). Almost instantly three white-beaked dolphins appeared close to the boat, and so we followed them for a little while. As we were about to leave we saw splashes in the distance. We came closer and found another pod of very playful white-beaked dolphins (5 individuals) and they started bowriding with us. They stayed with us for a while and we could see their shapes sliding under the water right next to us, a wonderful sighting. Another minke whale also appeared briefly in the same area before we headed back home. A great morning in Faxafloi!
