Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafuslan: We had to hold to our hats this afternoon, as a fierce wind blowing from the North-East was upon us. It accelerated through Hvalfjordur in a funnel effect, and did cause some bumps on the sea. But passengers were readied in overalls at the beginning of the tour and offered sea-sickness tablets, so everyone was prepared for the ride! But very few things can prepare for an unsuccessful tour... Beside a quick harbour porpoise dashing next to us once, we did not see any fin despite our most sincere efforts. Complimentary tickets were thus swiftly handed over. Hopefully next try for our returning passengers will be fruitful!

Tour at 9:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Sometimes I am very happy the weather forecast isn't completely right - there was little wind and the sky was clear and full of sunshine and, different than expected, the waves were just very low and smooth. It took us a while to get far out to where we had a wonderful encounter but the scenery all around surely made this hour very enjoyable. We headed for an area with many diving birds, the northern gannets, and encountered a feeding minke whale as well as numerous harbour porpoises. In fact there were so many, I couldn't say if there were 20 or 30 of them all around the boat. Both the porpoises as well as the minke whale came within only a few meters of the boat. It was a very special trip for sure having such close encounters. We were even able to hear the minke whale as it exhaled and the harbour porpoises whenever they splashed into the water after the small leaps that they do! Fabulous!!
