Tour at 09:00 and Tour at 13:00: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The wind had picked up since the morning tour wich meant the swell was also larger. For the main part of the tour we stayed close to the mountains in order to minimize the rocky movement of the boat. Close to the town Akranes we saw big flocks of birds, especially nothern fulmars, so we decided to slow down to scan the area for cetaceans. Unfortunately, we were not able to spot any whales or dolphins before running out of time and we needed to head back to Reykjavik. Guests were in general good mood but we gave out complimentary tickets in the hope they will be able to see the cetaceans of Faxaflói with us on another tour in the future.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Our first tour in the morning has left for us another iconic piece of Icelandic culture, the well-known gluggaveður. Seemed to be very warm inside thanks to the sun but outdoors the temperature was below zero accompanied by a howling wind coming from the northeast. Nonetheless, the sailing experience was great under our warm overalls. Faxafloi was plenty of marine life, northern fulmars and other seabirds were flying around everywhere: an excellent sign of cetacean's presence. After exploring for a while, we spotted some splashes and dorsal fins in the distance. When we got to the area to investigate, we could find a pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins. They got close to our boat, seeming to be very interested in us an practicing a bit of human-watching. But they weren't alone. Another 2 pods of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins were crossing our path for half an hour, surprising us each time. It was an incredible encounter. In our way back, we faced strong winds but it couldn't take our smile off after such a beautiful morning.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik. There is some wind and swells out on Faxabay so if you are sensitive to motion sickness we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office All our boats have inside and outside areas and to make the tour even more comfortable we provide warm overalls.
