Report from Eldey: The interchangeable weather did not dampen our spirits as we sailed out of Reykjavik this afternoon. As the previous tour had a sighting close to Grotta lighthouse we decided to head straight there. There was no sign of cetaceans straight away so our journey continued westward for sometime until a very tall blow of a humpback whale was seen in the distance. The incredibly large whale performed a deep dive as we approached, lifting its enormous fluke which was met with a gasp from those brave passengers that were on the top deck. We remained with the whale for 20-30 minutes watching it travel towards the Keflavik area. We reached a point when the whale was too far out in the bay and had to return home to the harbour. Everyone left very happy with their encounter with the large humpback whale.

Report from Eldey: Although we were expecting a rough trip today, we were pleasantly surprised out there. It was still freezing cold out there of course, mostly due to the wind, the shaking was kept to a minimum. It made the sightings easy, and after catching glimpses of 3 harbour porpoises, we had a pleasant encounter with a pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins. It was a bit difficult to spot them at first, they were spending long time without surfacing, maybe feed close to the bottom. But after a bit of patience the dolphins switched their attention toward us and swam around us for a while. The sea was crystal clear so we could see them perfectly following us on the side and looking at us, it's the perfect kind of encounters! We hanged around with them to our content and then we went back home. But not before spotting a humpback whale mid way! Right in front of the lighthouse Grota we saw its tall blow, and when we got it on the side, we could realize it was a big fully grown adult! Quite peculiarly, it had an indentation in front of the dorsal fin, probably man made sadly. We stayed with the humpback for about 15 minutes, which made the excursion go from good to awesome tour!
