Status: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: During our afternoon tour weather conditions changed a bit, with more cloud cover meaning that spotting cetaceans was easier and indeed it was. We sailed very close to Esja and Hvalfjordur, seeking for some shelter from the wind but also because we had the intuition that some wildlife was waiting for us. As soon as we reached our main spotting area, we started to have encounters everywhere. In total, we encountered around 20 white-beaked dolphins in 4 different pods. We could see some juveniles among them and they got closer to us in a gentle way. The way back home was smooth and very enjoyable.

Report from Eldey: The morning tour was great! We had the sun shinning in our back and tons of birds were our welcoming in Faxafloi. However, we had to face a bit of swell at the beginning of the tour but as it said "no pain no gain". After a while we got our reward. Some flocks of birds were spotted so we suspected that something was going on and indeed it was! We could easily spot from more than half an hour more than 50 white-beaked dolphins! They were everywhere feeding, in small or big groups, leaping out of the water and getting closer to our boat checking us. It was an unbelievable experience. Our way back was blessed by a nice sunshine and fantastic views from Reykjavik plus a smooth ride. It was a great morning.

Birds seen during our tour: eider duck, northern fulmar, raven, great black-backed gull, black-legged kittiwake, black-headed gull, black guillemot, great cormorant.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today on a beautiful and sunny day. It is a bit cold but all our boats have inside and outside areas and to make the tour even more comfortable we provide warm overalls. If you are sensitive to motion sickness we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office. Hope you will be able to join us today.
