Report from Eldey: The heavy fog had gone, the sun came out and we were really looking forward to sail out on the flat sea. It shouldn't be too difficult in this conditions to spot some cetaceans; or maybe not? It took us quite some time scanning the bay. But finally there it was, the first minke whale of the day! We were pretty sure it was the same as the day before, one unknown to our database. It was surfacing with a regular pattern, making it quite easy to follow and take pictures. After some time we decided to sail further out in search for some more cetaceans and it did not take us long to spot some harbour porpoises, 3-4 individuals. They were surfacing quite close to the boat and we managed to stay with them for some minutes. Proceeding our journey we saw lots of splashes further away, first thinking of dolphins as a typical behavior, but there were more harbour porpoises, probably more than 10. On approaching some came even shortly for a closer look. Trying not to lose track of time we started to slowly turn around towards the harbour and suddenly saw our third species of the day: white-beaked dolphins, probably 15-20 animals swimming calmly in the bay. Also this animals gave us the opportunity for some nice pictures but now it was really about time to head back when another minke whale just crossed our path! What a day, who would have thought this upon waking up on such a foggy dark morning.

Report from Eldey: The tour of today's morning seemed to be the opening scene of a horror movie. The bay was covered by a dense fog that was with us during the whole tour. Despite the mysterious nature of our trip we sailed over very calm waters. While we were discovering Faxafloi, 3 white -beaked dolphins came out of nowhere and disappeared almost immediately. It was just a warning of what was about to come. Once the fog cleared up, dolphins started to pop up everywhere, we countered around 20-25 of them surfacing graciously very close to us. In our way back, we enjoyed another species, 6-10 harbour porpoises separated in two different pods surfaced while we were heading back into the sunny Reykjavik. It was an amazing experience for the good Friday.

Birds seen during our tour: eider duck, northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, black guillemot, great black-backed gull, great cormorant.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today on this beautiful morning. If you are sensitive to motion sickness we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office.
