Report from Eldey: Welcome to Iceland and welcome to winter whale watching! What a fabulous tour!!! As we sailed out to Kollafjöður, the area that's been favoured by a fantastic humpback whale, we definitely got to feel the cold and snow on our faces. Maybe a bit hard for some to endure this kind of weather at the beginning of our tour, but as soon as we found our humpback whale for the 9th day in a row now and it began lunge feeding, there was no keeping anyone inside. For 1 1/2 hours the whale was lunge feeding together with numerous birds and a super cute harbour seal that kept coming right up to our boat and looking at us. Everyone soon learned how to tell what the whale will be doing simply by watching the birds. Whenever the whale was about to lunge feed, they dove down to the water surface to be able to grab the fish with their beaks that the whale was pushing upwards through it's massive body. Our captain did a great job of keeping the boat in a direction that we could watch the whale with the wind in our backs for most of the encounter. As we decided to leave and return to harbour, we began speeding up but as soon as we did, another lunge feed followed and we stayed a few more minutes, just unable to leave such an incredible whale. I am still smiling and don't mind whatever weather if we have an encounter like this :)
