Report from Eldey: The afternoon trip was easier than in the morning as the wind picked down and we were gently carried into Faxafloi. We arrived to an area which was quite prolific previous days but after a long search we couldn't find anything. When we were about to give up, a flock of birds caught our attention and for our surprise two huge black dorsal fins came out of nowhere: we had 2 orcas with us, and they were 2 males! It was unbelievable as we followed them for more than 30 mins and they made our watching very easy as they were keeping the same distance all the time.It was great to spend so much time with such a rare sighting in Faxafloi.

Report from Eldey: Last day of February was mostly cloudy, with fresh wind and calm sea. We started the day sailing towards area where we were lucky previous day and we noticed more sea birds flying around and also some fishing vessels in distance, all of that was a good sign of many fish in the sea. We took our time as whales and dolphins can be sometimes difficult to spot when they are feeding in the depth but despite really good search we couldn´t find anything. For short moment we thought that finally something big is coming but they were just harbour porpoises swimming around, those tiny dolphin-like cetaceans are common here and we are glad to see them but we are not claiming our trip as successful till we find something bigger. We offered complimentary tickets for our guests to try again and some of them decided to came back same afternoon, they did not regret that decision!

Bird species seen today include: northern gannet, northern fulmar, common guillemot, great cormorant. eider duck, black-legged kittiwakes, great black back gull

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. It has been quite windy for the past days and still is today, so we can expect there to be some undercurrent in the sea, causing some movement out on the boat, If you are prone to getting seasick, we do have seasickness tablets free of charge. It is always colder on sea than on land so make sure to make use of our warm overalls. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000
