Report from Eldey: A wet, rainy but calm sea adventure to Faxafloi Bay to day to see the marvelous wildlife we never get bored of. On our travels from the coast we saw a variety of seabirds: gannets, auks, seagulls and eider ducks. Then a busy feeding pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins, that were switching between feeding, travelling and just general nosiness of our vessel and passengers. Then a little later after leaving these guys in peace we found a very relaxed minke whale a a pod of 2-3 harbour porpoises. The minke whale was taking long shallow dives but we saw it numerous times and not to far for the vessel, maybe 50-60 meters. In the end we were wet but smiling, luckily the rain doesn't affect our sightings.

Report from Eldey: This tour the rain just didn't want to budge and we were surrounded not only by water from the ocean but also coming from the thick clouds up above. Non the less it wasn't very windy and it is still comfortable temperatures as well. We sailed out for an hour into the direction of Akraness where we took a look around an area that had a lot of birds flying close to the water surface and grabbing fish to feed on. We spotted 3 harbour porpoises that surfaced numerous times that were, very suddenly, followed by a minke whale that surfaced 3 times only 20 meters away from the boat. After going for a dive it showed itself another 3 breaths but then disappeared. Beginning to move again to search for some more whales, a single white-beaked dolphin appeared and swam around us for a few minutes. It was very strange to see just one lonely dolphin, as usually they are in a pod. It also left us suddenly and we turned way towards Reykjavik, spotting a harbour seal on the way. While we saw many species today, all encounters were of such a short duration that we decided to give out complimentary tickets to hopefully show the cetaceans for a longer duration on the next trip.
