Report from Eldey: We were really enjoying good weather as we were sailing through flat sea, sky was mostly covered by clouds but it only made better conditions for spotting cetaceans. It was so calm that we begun to worry, not even birds were showing signs of activity. Luckily our fish-finder was showing that all what we cannot see is happening deep below, so it was just a matter of time till we will find something on the surface. First animals were harbour porpoises, difficult to spot but now and then breaking waves to surprise our guests. Finally after almost two hours of searching we got a call from our rib boat that they were more successfull. On the northern part of the bay there was a humpback whale! What an awesome surprise! Last individual we seen a week ago! Whale was most likely feeding 50m below, going for 8min lasting dives and coming back to surface. It was quite a challenge to keep up with this fast moving individual but we could watch his powerfully blow and massive tail every time when it was coming back to breath between dives. We were back late in the harbour but it was definitely whale spend time!

Report from Eldey: We had a beautiful, mostly sunny morning. The sea was calm and we only encountered a light cool breeze. We were able to spot three minke whales spread out over the morning, with the first two (including 'Humpy'), were very elusive, while the third one (identified as 'Midi') kept surfacing a few times next to our boat, swimming into the same direction as we did. In between the minke sightings we also encountered 2-3 small pods of harbour porpoises very close to the front of the boat socializing and hunting.

Bird species seen today include: northern fulmar, long-tailed duck, black-legged kittiwake, great cormorant, eider duck, black guillemot, black headed gull, northern gannet

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 9:00 & 13:00. There could always be some movement out on the bay, so if you are prone to seasickness, we have seasickness tablets free of charge. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000
