Report from Eldey: Very Viking trip, there is no other way to describe our afternoon tour. Sea conditions got a bit more challenging but for our luck, 2 humpback whales were spotted near the lighthouse of Grotta, an idyllic place for whale watching. This couple were constantly together, surfacing, feeding and getting close to our boat in several occasions. We enjoyed several behaviour such as lob-tailing, lunge-feeding and breaching! Despite the sea conditions it was a great tour to learn more about these beautiful animals.

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE | at 9:00

Report from Eldey: What a great day to be at sea. Even though it looked like another rainy day, the sky kept opening up and with that the humpbacks appeared. As usual we spotted a couple of big bushy blows in the distance first. Only when we got closer we saw, that it was three humpback whales that kept surfacing very close together. At least one of the individuals was a calf, much smaller than the other two. It came up to the boat very close a few times, trying to get a better look at us and at the same time allowing us to look back. With lots of fish just a few meters underneath the boat, the whales were all around us and allowed us to have an incredible encounter. With the waves 'on our side' we approached the harbour, with the sun breaking through again. Now we can just hope for the whales to still be around this afternoon.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 9:00 and 13:00. The wind is picking up a bit on the bay and if you are prone to seasickness we have some seasickness tablets available at our ticket office.
