Report from Eldey: Great sailing continued in the afternoon. The sea was relatively flat, winds a little chilly but with the sun shining, very comfortable conditions for sailing and especially promising for easy spotting later on. We got to enjoy amazing views on the whole Faxafloi bay, even as far as to Snaefellsjökull, an old glacier volcano on the opposite side of the bay. Views that we only have in good weather like today. We searched a large area and were slowing down every now and then if we saw more sea birds in one area, as it could be a good indicator of fish in the water and possibly whales and dolphins. Despite our best efforts and ideal spotting conditions, we didn´t see any cetaceans on the tour. This is unfortunately what happens sometimes when dealing with wildlife. Eventhough we had good sightings this morning, the animals were just not in the area anymore this afternoon. Therefore we gave all our passengers complimentary tickets to come again on a tour for free within the next two years.

Report from Eldey: Finally the weather was on our side. Clear skies, strong sun, good sea conditions, just a bit windier as we sailed away from the shelter of the mountains. After 1 hours sailing we spotted a large flock of gannets and then a BLOW, a little blow but it was a blow and with a little waiting and patience a minke whale surfaced just 50m from our bow twice. Those at the front of the boat got to see it very well. It became a little more difficult to follow after that. Crew saw it a couple more times but hard to show the passengers. We heard about a pod of white-beaked dolphins so we decided to leave the minke. The dolphins were close to a fishing boat, two white-beaked dolphins that were very playful and bow-riding all the boats. A small pod but lots of fun to watch.

Birds seen today include: Common guillemots, seagulls (variety), northern gannets, black-legged kittiwates, great cormorants, eider ducks.
We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today,the seas are quite calm but there can always be movement on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available.
