✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 13:00

Report from Eldey: "Always be ready for surprises" - That is a sentence I say on almost every tour and yet, I was not ready for this surprise. We had been sailing a little under an hour on a clear and beautiful winter day when a black dorsal fin and a blow came up half a kilometer in front of us. Not ready to say which species it was just then and there because I truly was to surprised, we sailed closer and closer to a female and calf orca!!! Surfacing first very randomly it took us a bit to understand how to manouver the boat but soon we had the most wonderful sightings, with the two of them coming within only meters of us. We stayed for not to long, as calves deserve even more care of how long we stay with them since we want to ensure they get enough rest and time to suckle milk from their mom, so we moved on knowing that the rest of the pod, especially a male Orca, must still be around. Sure enough, we found them within just a minute and were stunned by the size of the male and it's gigantic dorsal fin. We used all time we had to stay with the male and the small female that was with it, finally sailing back full of excitement, happyness and definitely some unforgettable memories.

Birds seen today: Cormorant, shag, common guillemot, black-backed gull, black-headed gull.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. There could always be some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
