CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: As we were cancelled the last days we were expecting some swell but nothing compared to yesterdays forecast. We sailed out in about 1-1.5m swell and 5-7m/s southerly winds which made the tour offshore a little rocky but not too. Bad and the ride home much better as we surfed the swells. It took us a while to see our first whale sighting, a humpback whale after at about 2 hours into the tour. The star of the show. We also had a nice selections of birds too; gannets, fulmars, arctic terns and seagulls. We also had a very quick encounter of 2 harbour porpoises but only the passengers that were outside at the front of the boat got to see them. It was a difficult tour for the first half but ended very nicely.

✔ CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather was very similar to the morning, and the fog and low clouds hampered our visibility but we were still determined to find something nice for our passengers. We went to the same spot that the humpback whale had been seen this morning, but it didn't show itself - there was a twist: another humpback whale popped up at the exact same spot. This one was very interactive, it breached two times, once straight in front of the boat very close by, and it did some tail and flipper slapping as well! It also showed us its fluke on multiple occasions so we left this individual very happy indeed. We travelled around the area as we went slowly back to the harbour, but didn't find any more whales. However, we enjoyed the birdlife as we saw multiple fulmars, a great skua and some arctic terns.

✔ CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 19:00

Report from Eldey: This one started smoothly. Sea conditions were generally good. Almost none got sea sick and everybody got to see the one and only humpback whale of the tour. It started splashing some water in the close distance where we approached it slowly. Most likely this one was feeding as it changed directions sort of erratically, probably chasing some schools of fish and also performed some lunge feeding a couple times. So, after a few fluke dives we decided to leave it in peace and head back home.
