Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised. Masks are not mandatory but are recommended in areas where keeping distance from others is not possible.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We woke up to snow on the cars and streets this morning, the first real snow rather that just a little mounting frosting. It was meant to be rain/snowing for most the day and 7-9m/s in the morning, calming throughout the day. We were very happy to be heading out after a couple of days of cancelations and after 1 hours sailing we encountered a large pod of about 10-12 white-beaked dolphins. They seem to be more interested in catching their dinner that interacting with us so they were moving around a lot,  we even saw a few breaching out the water a few 100 meters away. Once leaving the dolphins we soon encountered a minke whale, like the dolphins it was surfacing super fast and was quite unpredictable in its surfacing behaviour. Really had to be quick spotting this guy. We saw it 3-5 times in total. Time was running out and we had to make our way home. We saw another individual in the distance and a pod of harbour porpoises (2-3 individuals) on the way home. A chilly, cold, wet morning but full of wildlife.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: An afternoon of adventure in the bay of Faxaflói! Iceland gets its name for some reason, and in front of some beautifully snowy mountains we decided to go out to the sea wearing warm overalls. The visibility and the sea were a challenge and this did not prevent us from enjoying a spectacular tour. After searching for 30 minutes several spouts appeared in the distance. As we got closer we could see that there were 3 HUMPBACK WHALES! Despite the waves the water was clear enough to see the three individuals together knowing when they were going to surface. One of them swam sideways for a few moments. It was impressive to see how they approached the boat, in fact, the three whales appeared a few meters and at times on one side of the boat at times on the other side of the boat, swimming very calmly and curiously. It was like we were in front of a mirror of realities, we were seeing them and they were seeing us. A sensational afternoon physically and emotionally, beautiful.
