Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised. Masks are not mandatory but are recommended in areas where keeping distance from others is not possible.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: A really beautiful and congenially cold day in Faxaflói Bay. There were winds from the northeast but pleasant. Just after dawn a pod of about 4 chubby harbor porpoises crossed their path with us swimming happily. We continued our tour and in the distance we saw a flock of seabirds fishing. We got closer and we could see that there were not only birds there but also 7 white-beaked dolphins having breakfast. They moved erratically in search of food. Some individuals approached the ship and looked at us sweetly, but they continued their breakfast hungry. There was a mother with a calf who seemed to be teaching it to fish. There is nothing like seeing them in their natural habitat showing natural behaviors, such as collaborating together, in this case it seemed as they worked together to herd the prey fish into limited areas so to make it easy for them to scoop them up. We returned to the harbour having breakfast too and a hot chocolate in the cafeteria. A very nice morning.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon had the perfect conditions for a winter whale watching tour: the sea was calm for this time of year, the mountains were snow-covered and beautiful, and there were plenty of marine mammals in the bay. We found a pod of around 10 white-beaked dolphins after an hour of sailing. They seemed to be feeding but some of them were also socialising, investigating our boat and bow riding. 1 o´clock. 6 o´clock, 9 o´clock - everywhere around the boat we saw dolphins. We could stay with the dolphins for a long time and time flew by because there was always something new happening, whether it was a leaping dolphin or some bow-riding individuals or an underwater silhouette of a dolphin diving underneath our boat. The encounter had been amazing but we had to start heading back to Reykjavík. We sailed through a hot-spot area hoping to have another short encounter, and we were lucky enough to spot another pod of around five white-beaked dolphins that were jumping and came very close to our boat. What an incredible day!
