Tour at 13:00
Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed out from the old harbour in Reykjavik in good sailing conditions. At first we began our search where we had spotted dolphins yesterday and the day before. We soon spotted glimpses of dorsal fins but could not identify what animal we had seen. Despite our best efforts we could not locate the owners of those fins and so we had to move on. Soon after we found a large flock of birds and saw fish on the on-board fish finder. These are usually good signs of cetacean activity and we had a very good look in that area. Unfourtunatley we saw neither tail nor fin of the cetaceans there but we did however see very many of the seabirds of Faxaflói Bay flying around the boat. We searched a bit further but it seemed like there were few ceteceans in the bay today. Perhaps there was little food or they were simply just being elusive and did not want to talk to us on the boat. On the way back we enjoyed the evening sun as it sank below the cloud cover and lit up the buildings of Reykjavik.
Birds seen on today's tour: Gannet, Kittiwake, Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gull, Long-tailed Duck, Shag, Lesser Black-Backed Gull, Greater Black-Backed Gull, Razorbill, Guillemot, Little Auk.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year from the Elding team !
