Tour at 17:00

Report from Hafsúlan: What a tour, two Fin Whales (second largest whale after the Blue Whale), Minke Whales and White-beaked Dolphins. We headed very far offshore on this tour. After about 40-50 minutes of sailing, one of the passengers started pointing. We waited for a little while and sure enough a Minke surfaced and many times too so that we all could see it very well. Then suddenly two massive blows in the distance. "Captain, 3 o´clock, big blows a kilometer away" We sailed over there but these whales where going for long dives and travelling very fast. Each time we were waiting there was something else to see like another Minke Whale or fast surfacing White-beaked Dolphins. Then these magnificient whales surfaced just 50-60 meters from the boat. It was very hard to tell that there was two individuals once closer but the frequently of the blows in the distance at the beginning we were positive.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather was once again gorgeous, blues skies and lovely calm seas. We went to the same area as this mornings tour. The first sign of life was a big flock of feeding birds, Gannets, seagulls and Guillemots mainly after about 30-40 minutes of sailing. Loads of birds but sadly no whales we sailed a bit further offshore and saw one Minke far in the distance but it only surfaced once so the passengers didn´t get to see it. We saw about 2-3 other Minkes but always through the binoculars and only ever once making it very difficult to point them out to everyone. The time was running out and we had to head back to land and visit Puffin Island. Once arriving we got to see only 2-3 Puffins on an island where about 20,000 pairs breed. Where did they all go. The perfect day to be out at sea but the whales were too busy on this tour to entertain us. Hopefully the next will be better.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan The weather was just perfect for whale watching this lovely morning. We started by visiting Akurey the puffin Island where we had few of them at home this morning. After that we headed out to search for the whales. It did not take us a long time to spot a blow in a distance. It was quite far away but the visibility today was just great so we were able to see it miles away. Once we got there we were not disappointed. We had minke whales everywhere! The guide stopped counting in 10 individuals. This was just great and we stayed with them the whole tour, seeing different animals surfacing time after time in the same area. Wonderful tour!

Birds seen on todyas tour include; Gannets, Puffins, Guillemots, Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Seagulls, Arctic Skua´s, Brent Geese, Greylag Geese and Eider Ducks.
