Few natural phenomena are as mesmerising as the aurora borealis. These shifting curtains of colour sweep across the polar skies, painting them in hues of green, pink, and violet. While their appearance may seem unpredictable, scientists have developed ways to understand when and where they might occur and by studying the activity levels, we can estimate the likelihood of seeing them.
NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR I 21:00
Report from Eldey: Tonight we were expecting an activity with a KP index of 3, which makes us hopeful to go out and check the lights. And, very well! We were treated with Northern lights even before we started the tour! Sailing out, we were already inviting people to come outside cause there was a big thick green arch in the sky waiting for us! It was fantastic, we could see it very well with our naked eye and even better and greener with the cameras. They started to fade throughout the tour, but the sky kept on giving us beautiful and strong stars. As we looked at constellations, we were surprised by a very long and visibly burning shooting star, almost like a meteor! Many of us could see it because of the sweet time that this stayed in the sky going down and disappearing. We then spotted a little green on the top of Akranes, but it kept vanishing and returning. We then started our way back to the harbour, very satisfied!
