NORTHERN LIGHTS CRUISE | 21:00

Report from Eldey: With a Kp index of four and some gaps in the sky to see stars, we set sail. After admiring the city skyline, and seeing some of the light displays on Hallgrimskirkja from the Winter Lights Festival, we set out away from the city lights and awaited for the auroras to appear. As we waited we learned about how the northern lights form, who named them, and got our cameras ready in hope that they would make an appearance for us. We learned a bit about Viðey island, as we sailed by it and admired the fresh snow on Esja the mountain. With high hopes, we listened to some Icelandic songs and learned about some of the Icelandic oral myths surrounding the Northern Lights. Unfortunately, the northern lights did not make an appearance, so we handed out complimentary tickets, giving everyone another chance to come out another night and hopefully see the lights.
