Report from Elding: We headed out into calm seas and bright sunshine, with perfect conditions for a day on the water. After some searching, we finally bumped into our first whale of the day — a minke whale. The minke was rather elusive, appearing only briefly before disappearing beneath the surface again. We managed to catch a few glimpses as it surfaced, but it certainly kept us on our toes! We moved on and, not long after, found a humpback whale feeding in the area. This one was much more cooperative, coming to the surface frequently and giving us plenty of opportunities to watch its impressive feeding behaviour. Just when we thought the day couldn’t get much better, we encountered a pod of around 10 white-beaked dolphins. They were in a wonderfully social mood, coming right up to the boat to bow ride and putting on a fantastic display of jumping and playing alongside us. A minke whale, a humpback, and a lively pod of white-beaked dolphins — a brilliant day out on the water!

Report from Eldey: The sea was calming and the sky was clearing as we went out again this afternoon. The bay was teaming with life as we saw a total of 5 minke whales, 3 harbour porpoises, 2 white beaked dolphins and a humpback whale! The minkes were all around, with the first one appearing almost right outside the harbour. Some of them were a bit shy, but others were too occupied feeding to even be bothered with us hanging around, allowing us many great looks at this usually rather elusive species. The porpoises did their thing as we sailed by but eventually took their leave and disappeared out of sight while the dolphins swam by us rather leasurely. The humpback whale then, was also very busy feeding going on many short dives with a high fluke each time, giving us a fabulous show. What a trip this was!

Report from Eldey: We headed out beneath the beautiful midnight sun, with calm waters and plenty of anticipation for what the day might bring. It wasn’t long before we spotted three harbour porpoises passing by, along with a minke whale. But we soon had our eyes on something much more exciting — a blow from a humpback whale in the distance! As we made our way over, it quickly became clear that this humpback was putting on quite a show. It was feeding crazily and surfacing very frequently, giving us fantastic views as it moved through the water. After enjoying the spectacular display, we continued on, spotting more blows further ahead. On the way, we passed two pods of around five white-beaked dolphins. Unlike our previous encounter, these dolphins weren’t particularly interested in socialising and kept their distance as they continued on their way. Our next surprise was finding not one, but two humpback whales travelling together. It was a special sight to see these two giants moving side by side. Nearby, we also came across three minke whales and, to finish off an already incredible trip, a pod of around 15 white-beaked dolphins. Among them were several mothers with calves, making the encounter even more special. With humpbacks, minke whales, harbour porpoises and a lively pod of dolphins, the midnight sun certainly delivered another unforgettable day on the water!
