CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey: The winds had turned to a southern direction in the morning and so we went out on calm seas with just a slight drizzle. Good conditions to search for whales and other wildlife out on Faxaflói bay. Not far out we spotted the first humpback whale that showed us its wonderful white fluke when going for a longer dive. While waiting for the humpback to come up again we also spotted a minke whale a few hundred meters away. This smaller an fast whales tend to be more shy and hence it was no surprise to us that it kept its distance to us. After a while with these whales we went on further out and just minutes later spotted a second humpback whale. However this one spend a long time under water and so we went on to see what to find further out. Again a good decision as it turned out as we found a pair of humpback whales. One of them was our old friend Davy Jones II, a whale known for his friendly and sometimes spectacular surface behavior when close to our boats. Also this time he did not disappoint and surfaced mere meters beside our boat giving us a wonderful impression of his massive size. As it came to the time to head back to the harbor and we turned the boat, one of the whales bid us its farewell by breaching twice. A great spectacle to end this great tour with!
