CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: The sun was peaking over the horizon as we set sail this morning. Right outside the harbor we came across one minke whale. The sea was very calm which easily allowed us to track this individual as it surfaced and kept us on our toes. After a really nice sighting, it was time to head out into the bay. As we sailed out the sun was lighting up the clouds and casting a glow upon the skyline. After a bit of a sail, we spotted the blows of three humpback whales! These individuals were very active. One started tail slapping, and so we moved back to give them plenty of space. When we did so, they trio turned directly towards to boat and came to give us a bit of a boat inspection! They started rolling and pectoral slapping, spyhopping and swishing their tails! Mr. bubbles made themselves known by raising their fluke high before diving below. The other two individuals were keeping us guessing by showing half flukes as they rolled side to side. Still, we were able to see the distinguishing features of the lovely Neila! After two proper boat inspections and more rolling around, it was time to wave these individuals goodbye and head back to port. What an incredible start to the morning!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon the clouds had rolled in, but the sun was still managing to light up the snowy mountains surrounding us creating a winter scene. As we were sailing out we spotted a pod of 4 harbor porpoises! This pod was on the move and so we saw them on the go and kept on going. We came across another 2 harbor porpoises and saw them on the go as well. As we were sailing farther out into the bay we spotted the blows of humpback whales! There were a total of 6 in this area! We had three pairs! They were surrounding us and coming very close, even swimming under the boat! We had many behaviors including spyhopping, rolling, peduncle throwing and flukes galore! Every direction you looked whales were all around! We could see their entire bodies through the surface of the water! After an incredible almost continuous encounter, we waved our whales goodbye and continued. Not too far away we spotted another pair of humpback whales! These individuals gave us multiple surface sequences, some more flukes and another peduncle throw! After another great viewing, it was time to wave our cetaceans goodbye and head back to port. right outside the harbor we spotted one minke whale! This individual was feeding and gave us multiple nice surface sequences. This brought our sighting totals to 8 humpbacks (4 pairs), 6 harbor porpoises and 1 minke whale! We sailed back with smiles all around as our cetaceans made long lasting memories for us today on the bay!
