CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Hafsúlan: you never know how long it is going to take. In the last two or three days it has taken until pretty much the end of the trip to find whales but today we saw one as soon as we passed the harbour walls. It was a humpback whale, our usual suspect Banana. So docile, so easy going on the surface, making us forget the swell and the wind. When a more boats arrived, we left it in peace in order to minimize the stress on the whale and went for a cruise that took us north of Videy Island and between Videy Island and Geldinganes Peninsula we came across another humpback whale except this one was a lot more harder to watch, presumably because it was just busier feeding than Banana had been. After spending a while of him playing something of a cat and mouse game with us, we decided to leave him in peace and slowly head back towards the harbour but not without saying final goodbyes to Banana, who was in about the same place as before, and then went back to the harbour totally thrilled.

Report from Eldey: What a nice last day of the year to go out to see the whales! After so many overcast, wet and foggy days today we went out under a clear sky with the sun shining. Beside a quite stiff breeze from the north that brought some cold winds, we had a great day. Just mere meters out of the harbor we spotted the first humpback whale. It was swimming fast and probably on the search for some food. We stayed with it for some time before we went on to let it do it's things. While during our tour around the islands, we spotted a harbor seal and a grey seal that checked what we were up to. Not too long until we found the second humpback whale of the tour on the far side of Viðey. This one was a bit more shy than the other and just surfaced once between dives. Not so easy to keep in sight, but we got some nice fluke dives. As we the continued around the Islands we spotted the third humpback that was traveling close to Viðey as well. Also quite shy, it barely showed more than its head when coming up for a breath. What a day, great weather, 3 humpbacks, grey and harbor seals. The year could not end much better!
