Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: A huge cloud of smoke from the recently erupted volcano made for the perfect background of this spectacular whale watching tour. Two humpback whales were swimming in the same area very calmly. They came close to the boat and showed us their fluke multiple times. We then sailed further out to explore the area, and quickly found a third humpback whale! This individual was diving longer, so we stayed with it for a few surface sequences but then we went back to the first individual for a beautiful goodbye. We sailed back to the harbour with the view of the volcano and some sunshine, and wonderful memories of good sightings.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: What a great day for a whale watching tour! It was sunny and just slightly windy. It didn't even look like a winter day in Iceland. No clouds at all and 3 humpback whales all around! The first humpback whale was quite relaxed and always showing its fluke, the second whale came extremely close to our boat. So close it felt we could feel its blow on our faces, and at some point it was incredibly close to the back so much so that the guides couldnt see it! The last whale was a little trickier, so we stayed with it as long as we could but then headed back to the harbour - stopping at the first whale one more time. It did not take us long to encounter the first individual! We only needed to sail around 15 minutes to meet it! The rest of the tour went very smoothly with beautiful flukes and pleasant daylight!
