CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Today was a magical day out in Faxaflói Bay! The morning was cold but sunny as we prepared to set sail. We got an extra layer with our overalls and sipped on hot coffee to prepare for the cold breeze and started searching. After about 30 minutes, we spotted our first blow in the distance. As we approached, we were thrilled to see three humpback whales swimming gracefully together. Two of them were familiar faces—Neila and Pep! It’s always special to recognize individuals and see them thriving in their natural habitat. They swam gently under our boat multiple times and got super close to our bow! After spending some time watching their gentle movements, we decided it was time continue our trip and search for more wildlife. Unfortunately we were not able to find any more cetacean species but we were pretty happy with our encounters so we decided to head back to the harbor.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 1300

Report from Eldey: We had an incredible afternoon to follow up the morning. The sun was shining the whole trip and we were lucky enough to see 5 humpback whales along with 3 minke whales! To begin our trip, not even 5 minutes in we had come across a minke. It was surfacing quite a bit including coming close a few times before disappearing. Then we carried on and on our way out we saw another minnke. Then after 45 minutes or so we came across the same trio as the morning consisting of Pep and Neila. They kept staying really close to us surfacing a lot. We saw a couple fluke dives, a tail slap and even one of them do a poo! In this area was also the 3rd minke. Then we decided to carry on after a sensational sighting and very quickly found the 4th humpback. This one took dives of 8-9 minutes but surfaced a lot whilst up before fluking. Then on our way home we saw a 5th humpback in the distance but still managed to see it fluke.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17OO

Report from Eldey: We had a wonderful evening tour, a perfect way to end our day. The sun was shining brightly throughout the trip, and we were lucky enough to spot three humpback whales along with a minke whale! We headed back to the same spot where we had seen whales earlier, and as we approached, we could already see their blows from afar. On the way, we had a delightful surprise when a minke whale surfaced a few times, not far from our boat. Once we reached the area, we encountered the same trio of humpback whales from earlier, including Pep and Neila. They stayed close, surfacing frequently, and treated us to fluke dives, a tail slap, and even a peduncle throw! They continued to surface around the boat before moving on deeper into the bay. After this incredible encounter, we sailed around the bay, basking in the warm sunset glow, soaking in the beauty of this final day of September.
