Tour at 13:00

The snow was gone but the sun was still shining when we headed out again, the second time today searching for Whales. The captain spotted a small pod of Harbour Porpoises which disappeared after spotting them only one time. So we sailed further out. And this tour was very much like the tour in the morning. We came in to an area where we were able to observe Minke Whales and not only one or two, many individuals. Some of them surfaced very close to the boat so the passengers got a good look at them. Spectacular day in the bay.

Tour at 9:00

The day started with the sun beaming on the snow and a flat calm sea. We set off onboard Hafsúlan and only sailed for about 20 minutes before the captain spotted a small pod of Harbour Porpoises which were a little hard to follow so we left them to their business and went a bit further offshore. Then ............. MINKE WHALES!!!!, we were surrounded by them. They were surfacing everywhere; 1 o´clock 100 meters, 3 o'clock 600 meters, 6 o´clock 50 meters, just everywhere. Could not pin point exactly how many were spotted altogether throughout the tour, but it must of been between 10 to 15 individuals. There were a lot of fish on the fish finder in places and quite a few birds around, Fulmars, Gulls, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Razorbill and Guillemots. So, hopefully this is the start of many days of viewing the Minke Whale.
