Tour at 13:00
Both tours of the day were onboard Elding (Icelandic meaning lightning) this vessel allowed viewing on three platforms so that all can see and what a great deal to see for this tour. Again sailed offshore and spotted a small pod of Harbour Porpoises but again they were very elusive and very hard to track so we left them to it and headed further offshore. Then from the corner of my eye (the guide) saw some dorsal fins which were first identified as White-beaked Dolphins however, once we stopped they weren´t seen anymore but suddenly a Minke Whale!!! We had a great encounter with this Minke, seeing it surface over 20 times (altogether throughout the tour) sometimes less than 100 meters from the vessel. We also had an amazing sighting of 4/5 Gannets (the largest seabird of the North Atlantic), watching them fold their wings back making the body look like a torpedo, diving from heights of 30 meters and reaching speeds of over 100km/hour. Just an amazing tour.
Tour at 09:00
We headed out to Faxaflói bay this morning in very nice weather however, there was a bit of swell from the other day. The first cetacean that was spotted today was a small pod of Harbour Porpoises but they were a little shy so we didn´t stay with them very long. Then we spotted a Minke Whale surfacing over 300 meters away so as we got closer it surfaced 3 times less than 100 meters before disappearing. Then a nice pod of White-beaked Dolphins crossed our path and interacted with our vessel, we stayed with them for quite a while as they were very enjoyable. Great tour ;)
