Report from Elding: After a day of cancelled whale watching tours we were very happy to be getting back out to sea for our northern lights hunt. The forecast was again low and we were not sure what the cloud cover would do for us but we always try! Its especially beautiful to see Reykjavik all lit up. We experienced some rocking on our way but soon gained shelter from the island of Viðey and Geldinganes and even whilst drifting quite fast due to the wind we were able to turn off the engines and listen to some music whilst we waited for the clouds to part. Not a single star was seen and high clouds covered the skies with very little movement. Even if it was a clear sky the chances of observing the northern lights were also low as the Leirvogur Magnetic Observatory http://cygnus.raunvis.hi.is/~halo/lrv.html was not showing much activity either between 9pm - midnight. In the end we offered our passengers complimentary tickets in the hope they will be luckier next time.
