What to do on a rainy day in Reykjavík?
Go to a local swimming pool:
Relaxing in a hot tub is what many of us like to do on a day off, or even after a stressful day at work. Meeting up with friends or bringing the kids on an outing to the swimming pool has been very popular among locals for generations. In recent years, many tourists have now caught up on this trend as it is both a cheaper and more accessible alternative to the nature baths on the outskirts of the city.
Here are some of the pools closest to the city centre:
- Vesturbæjarlaug
- Laugardalslaug
- Sundhöll Reykjavíkur
- Nauthólsvík geothermal beach
HOT TIP: Remember to shower thoroughly before getting into the pool and don't be afraid to try the hot tubs!
Stroll around Reykjavík:
A variety of shops and restaurants can be found on the main shopping street that ties the city together. At one end you will find the largest church in Iceland and the other a large glass building by the sea. There are plenty of things to explore in the city, no matter the weather.
Here are some landmarks we recommend:
- Hallgrímskirkja
- Laugavegur shopping street
- Sun Voyager

Visit museums:
There are dozens of interesting exhibitions and museums within walking distance of each other. Whether you are interested in modern art, history of Iceland, glaciers or aurora borealis, there are plenty of things to choose from!
