NORTHERN LIGHTS CRUISE | 21:00

Report from Eldey: With the ideal forecast for great northern lights, we set sail out of Reykjavík harbour, hopeful to replace the lights of the city with dancing lights in the sky. We saw the auroras starting to form soon after we departed, but suddenly the forecasted clear skies became filled with clouds and it even started snowing lightly. A bit disappointed, we waited for the clouds to go away to reveal the strong activity of a kp of five, and 20 minutes later it finally did. We saw streaks of white, green and purple auroras around and above us. We don't often see the purple lights created by collisions of particles from the sun with nitrogen from our atmosphere, so we were excited to experience this rare phenomenon. A while later, the clouds suddenly came back again and the auroras were more difficult to see. When it was time to start heading back to the harbour, we decided to wait a bit longer as the apps we use were predicting a very high likelihood of seeing strong northern lights soon. We were so happy we waited, because we saw vibrant green and bright pink lights dancing in the sky, taking on many forms and even spiraling around! An unforgettable night.
