Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

COVID-19: No restrictions are in place but passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised. Mask use is optional.

Report from Eldey: The wind was coming from the south-east this morning and it was quite cold. The sky was mainly clear with a beautiful sun above Reykjanes peninsula. The sea was still  but rarely breaking waves. We went out in the area were we got lucky yesterday and found a group of 3-4 white-beaked dolphins in our way. They actually found us, came toward our vessel and swam on our side and bow riding a bit before they went back to their own business. We continue moving after this lovely sighting. Not long after we spotted a big splash in the distance, the type of splash that can only mean one thing - a breach. It was far but we went there as quickly as possible seeing several blows and more splashes. When we were a little bit closer we could sea the body of a huge animal coming out of the water in a strong jump, falling back in splashes. We were obviously very excited and approached more until we could see the animal from closer. It was a trio of humpback whales! We recognized Neila and Mariupol with a third humpback that we did not know. They were playful rolling and showing the pectoral fin, coming close to our vessel and to another whale watching boat non-far from us. At some point they came at only a few meters from us! They went on synchronized fluke dives and made our tour impossible to forgive. We went back to Reykjavik with sun and a smile on our faces.

Report from Eldey: Today we had wonderful sunshine and blue skies as we sailed out, though there was a bit of swell and strong winds from the east. We sailed into faxafloi and after over an hour still had no luck. But we persisted and continued on our quest. Our patience was rewarded and we saw a blow in the distance. We made our way towards it and were surprised by two white beaked dolphins. These came close to our boat but we were distracted by the big blow infront of us - a humpback whale! Correction, two humpback whales! Wait - three(!) humpback whales. It was Mariupol and Neila again who joined up with an unknown whale. We watched them for a few moments, they came very close and two of them were pec-slapping. As it took us some time to find the whales we started making our way back to the harbour and could still see the whales waving us goodbye as we went.
