Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out with a beautiful sunrise above Reykjavik. Not even 20min into sailing we saw a fluke dive right outside the harbour! It was a humpback whale! Its fluke dives were a little on the longer side but we did get to see its fluke each time! After enjoying each others company we decided to head further out into the bay to see what it has to offer today! After a bit of sailing we saw some jumping white beaked dolphins! It was a pod of 7-9 individuals, who were bow riding and jumping all around! It even looked like another pod was coming to join us! To our surprise we also spotted a minke whale, that came up quickly and disappeared again! We observed the dolphins for a little bit before heading back towards harbour, and saw the humpback whale one last time and then arrived back in Reykjavik.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out from the harbour with a great visibility. We could clearly see Snaæfellsjökull full cover on snow. After 20 minutes of sailing we encountered our firs sighting with a small group of 5 to 7 harbor porpoises. Very lovely to come across them for a short time before we kept on sailing a bit further into the bay. We decided to head towards Hafnarfjörður and try luck based on previous sightings. As we came closer to land we could see at least 2 humpback whales from very close distance. The animals were mainly resting, coming often at the surface to breathe, in a slow pace and allowing us to take good photos and videos of them swimming around. There were a couple of times that they did some feeding behavior as the birds were also following the whales when they were coming up at the surface. The way back brought a bit more wind but the sun was shinning giving us a pleasant feeling of a summer vibe.
