Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land

Report from Eldey:

We two days of cancellations we were excited to get back out there again today. We first sailed in the very calm, sheltered coastal waters to the north and soon saw the stronger northerly winds picking the the seas towards the mouth of Hvalfjörður, making the sailing along more blustery and extremely cold. A very important day to wrap up and borrow our warm overalls if you wanted. After about 1 hours sailing our passengers spotted a few dark dorsal fins popping up. A pod of white-beaked dolphins, soon more and more came to the party and in total we encountered about 20-30 inidviduals all scattered, first very busy in catching their morning breakfast and then later socialising amongst themselves. After a while we left them in peace and explored more of the fjord but soon time was running out and we had to head back to Reykjavik. Once in the calm sheltered waters again we encountered two pods of harbour porpoises (about 5 in the first and 3-4 in the other), even a harbour seal popped up its head at one stage. A very nice morning to spend out in the bay, despite the cold.

Report from Eldey: We started the tour with a very cold day but still very excited about going out to sea to look for the whales! The sea was calm and it was sunny but as soon as we were a bit further away from shore the wind started to blow very hard making it a bit hard to spot wildlife on the surface. After some time looking for some animal activity, we finally found a pod of white beaked dolphins. There were about eight of them and we could see them really close to the boat. We could even see them surfing the waves formed by the wind! And also we could appreciate through our cameras that there were some calves between them. What a lovely scene! After spending some time with them we decided to head back to Reykjavik so we could be there in time and get a bit covered from the freezing wind.
