Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 and 14:00 Premium Whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00  Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00, 13:00, 17:00

Report from Eldey: we sailed out in this very sunny but windy morning, hoping for many sightings as the visibility was great. As soon as we were further out the bay, the freezing wind picked up substantially but this didn't stop us from getting our first sightings: 2 minke whales passed quite close to our boat very fast, in a zone of clear activity with many birds flying around. At the same time, we spotted a group of white beaked dolphins close to us, feeding through the waves. These 2 pods kept going around the active area were we where, appear and disappear, ending up bowriding with us as we left. Trying to get some wind coverage, we headed closer to the harbour region, where we had the chance to see another 2 minke whales, to end our tour nicely.

Report from Eldey: The sun was the protagonist during all the tour. We had a beautiful clear sky but a strong and fresh north-east wind and some white caps that made the spot quite tricky. After a while we saw 1 blow in the distance and it was a minke whale. We followed this animal for a bit even if it was quite shy and elusive. Then we spotted other 2 minke whales quite close to each other and suddenly one of them popped out very close to the boat leaving all the passenger pretty amazed. We could see these animals quite active, busy feeding and traveling. Also, one pod of 3 harbour porpoises came across our route and we could admire these lovely tiny creatures. At the end, despite the chilly temperatures, we enjoyed our sailing and the wildlife.

Report from Eldey: We sailed out in the early evening sun into the wind in search of more cetaceans. We headed in the direction of Esja where we had seen some marine mammals yesterday. It didn´t take very long for us to find the same species again. A harbour porpoise appeared on our right hand side then just as we thought it had disappeared we saw it leap on our left creating a small splash. This porpoise seemed to magically turn into a minke whale as in the exact same spot the porpoise disappeared a minke surfaced. We got to see this beautiful animal surface many times close to the islands just off the coast of Reykjavik. It was a really nice sighting. Later on in the tour we then saw a rainbow form within the clouds which was exciting. We then headed back to the harbour after a nice, relaxing tour.
