Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00  Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

Report from Eldey: I am not much of a morning person but this was a beautiful way to start the day. The sun was still rising, so the water was golden and shimmery. There was barely any wind and the ocean was completely calm. We sailed out and only 20min later spotted a dark black back come up for air. We had found Flak, our winter humpback whale. It started off changing direction quite a bit and kept us on our toes but then seemed to settle into a pattern, always coming up on our left very close to the boat. We could see its blow so clearly in the low sun, and took in all of its glory. After staying with Flak for a while, we decided to head out a bit further to see if there were anymore cetaceans about. The sky was now pink as we went further into Faxafloi. We didn't find anymore species so then decided to head back to Flak. Again, the whale came up extremely close, giving us lots of chances to take pictures. We spent a bit more time together and then headed back to harbour.

Report from Eldey: After our amazing sunrise, we were looking forward to the afternoon. With the sun present it was significantly 'warmer' as we sailed out. Now we had clear blue skies and still a very calm blue sea. We quickly spotted Flak the humpback whale swimming around Engey and went to have a closer look. We stayed with Flak for a bit and then decided to venture further out. We saw 2 harbour porpoises that were jumping out the water! This is very rare so the crew were quite excited to see this. Harbour porpoises are quick and quite elusive so after their few jumps they vanished. We continued on as well and spotted another blow in the distance! 'Twas another humpback whale! This one started off a little elusive but in the end came up directly next to us, only a few meters away. It showed us its fluke one last time and then we decided to head back towards harbour, seeing Flak a few more times before we went back properly. On our way back the sun was slowly setting again, dousing the mountains in a golden hue.
