CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We set out onto the beautiful, calm bay under beaming sunlight, pristine spotting conditions! We bundled up and headed out, eager to see what the bay had to offer. Some small splashes in the distance soon caught our eye. We headed over to get a closer look and to our delight came across a pod of 6-7 very active white-beaked dolphins playing around us. We got to see some leaps, some bow-riding, and we absolutely melted at the sight of multiple young calves among them. As we saw this pod was very busy feeding, we decided to continue on and see what else we could find. We soon came across a large flock of birds, with many of the Northern gannets showing off their impressive plunge dives all around. It became clear that this area was rich in fish, food for not only the seabirds, but also hungry whales. We spotted 3-4 minke whales hanging around, no doubt feasting on the buffet just beneath the surface. We spent a wonderful couple minutes in this busy, active area before continuing on. We spotted some familiar small splashes in the distance and made our way over. On our way, we slowed down to get a better look under a huge flock of birds circling around, and spotted yet another minke whale. But out attention soon turned to the white-beaked dolphins, as there were 3-4 pod around us, leaping, breaching and exhibiting every surface behaviour we could hope to see! The pod we followed was composed of 3-4 mother-calf pairs, and though typically pods with young tend to be more cautious around boats, these little ones were absolutely showing off for us, leaping all around, coming in nice and close to inspect our boat! As we were watching these adorable calves put on a show, the pod started circling and feeding just behind us, and all the other pods seemed to be speedily making their way there, most of them leaping, breaching, and head-slapping on the way! What a magical moment, straight out of a nature documentary! We enjoyed the rest of out time with these wonderful dolphins before heading back towards the harbour. Even on out way home, we got to see yet another pod of 8-10 white-beaked dolphins, bidding us farewell. What a magical tour, what a lucky day!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Even though it was a little bit chilly the weather as stunning today with lots of sun, barely any wind and near flat seas. As we sailed out we quickly ran into a pod of around 10 white beaked-dolphins. We stayed with them for a little bit as the curiously came closer and once they moved onwards, so did we. We then found a travelling humpback whale and so we travelled alongside it for a bit as it went for multiple gracious fluke dives. at the same time, we saw another small pod of around dolphins pass behind us. We then continued onwards, encountering a large pod of 30 more white-beaked dolphins! They were very active with loads of jumping! One dolphin even came jumping over and over right beside us, clearly directing his display to us! It did not stop there though as we also saw a total of 4 harbour porpoises, 4 Minke whales and an additional trio of humpback whales feeding very actively, including the occasional lunges! What a day it was!
