CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was an overcast and foggy morning as we went out onto the bay. At least it was not to windy and so the waves were not much of problem. We searched far out n an area that held lots of sea birds which indicate lots of fish that also the whales like to feed on. We soon spotted the slender shapes of minke whales at the surface. 3 of these fast baleen whales were feeding in the area and therefor traveling at high speeds with lots of direction changes. We tried our best to get closer to them but were just able to see them disappearing fast at greater distances. We offered complementary tickets to our guest to come out on another tour with us to see the whales of Faxaflói.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out with a bit of rainy, into a bit of waves. We searched far and wide into the bay but eventually our patience paid off. First, we saw a very calm pod of 10 white-beaked dolphins around, sticking closely together, going back and forth calmly in their area. Then, we found a pair of humpback whales! They were very calm at first but then suddenly, one of them broke out in an amazing display of peduncle throws and tailslaps! This lasted for around 20 minutes and for a brief moment the other whale even joined in, resulting in an almost synchronized peduncle throw! Then, we apparently peaked their interest as they both came over to check us out, calmly and carefully surfacing mere meters from our boat! This was an incedible ender to our tour and once we were whale approved and they moved to a safe distance, we sailed back towards Reykjavík.
