CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out under very serene conditions, the sea only had some small wavelets and the skies were covered in white fluffy clouds. Not long after leaving port, we came across a pod of 3 white beaked dolphins. We stopped and could observe a few individuals swimming very close to our boat. However, they did not seem too interested in us as they were travelling, maybe with a secret destination in mind. We carried on, and were soon excited to notice some splashes in the distance. It turned out to be another pod of 7 white beaked dolphins! These were more active than the first pod, we could observe them leaping over the sea surface, and at times a few of them stopping for some mating behavior. After some nice close-up looks at these big, beautiful dolphins, we decided to leave them be and continued on our adventure closer towards Reykjavik. Suddenly, a grey back appeared in front of us! To our delight it turned out to be a humpback whale! We stayed to watch this individual surface and do both some shallow and deeper dives. Filled with joy after such wonderful wildlife encounters we headed back to port again - this was certainly a successful morning!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We had a very pleasant weather this afternoon, as the sea was calm and the temperatures relatively warm. So, our whale-watching adventure into the bay of Faxaflói had a good start, and conditions where good for searching for wildlife. We searched for a while, eventually coming across two white-beaked dolphins, followed by two more individuals from the same species. These dolphins surfaced a few times quite close to our boat, before moving away. We kept searching for more wildlife, coming across a multitude of bird species, like puffins, arctic terns, kittiwakes and more. By the end of the tour, we had exciting sighting of a minke whale, which served as the cherry on top of the cake, before we finished our whale-watching adventure!
