CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00
Report from Eldey and Hafsúlan: Despite the clouds, the bay looked very calm this morning, the surface of the water was almost flat. Perfect conditions for searching the bay for marine life. We sailed north, observing many Atlantic puffins along the way. They too were navigating the high seas in search of fish. After sailing for a while, we changed course and headed west to an area where a humpback whale had been spotted. When we arrived, the whale was fairly quiet, surfacing occasionally and then, after two or three blows, diving again for a short period. Unfortunately, no other cetaceans species were present in the bay, so all of the whale watching boats were gathered around the same individual. Suddenly, the whale began pectoral slapping, striking the surface of the water with its fins. It was obvious that the whale could sense our presence and seemed to be communicating its mood while marking its territory. So, after observing the whale for a while, we decided to avoid disturbing it any further and left the area. It was a great privilege to witness the whale displaying its enormous pectoral fins and its tail. Another incredible day spent learning from wild animals in their natural environment.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00
Report from Eldey: We had very calm seas today which made us happy. Not long after we started the tour we were lucky with a sighting. A big blow appeared in the distance and it ended up being a beautiful humpback whale. It kept showing off with its gracious fluke time after time which was a great sight. After spending some time with this individual, we wanted to leave it alone and hopefully find something else out in the bay. We were thinking that we could try to find the individual from this morning, but it was not in the area anymore. We did a loop and then returned to the very same individual that gave us the beautiful fluke dives. This encounter was even better than the first time, with completely still water that allowed us to see the whole body of the whale with its big white pectorial fins. What a great day out at sea!
