CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We set out of Reykjavik harbour with perfect sea conditions, flat and perfect contrast to spot whales and dolphins. Skies were cloudy but no rain. As we set off further into the bay we are greeted by numerous sea birds on the hunt for food. After about 45mins we spotted our first cetacean, a minke whale, not one but two! A large and smaller individual, both engaged in a beautiful synchronized swimming routine, probably to facilitate feeding. We stayed with them for several diving events before leaving them and heading back North. Not long after we embarked in a pod of about 10 white-beaked dolphins. It's always amazing to see as they came quite close to the boat and even started bow-riding in the front. The group was made up of older and younger individuals, surely related, really special. After about 20mins we had to head back towards the harbour, and on our way we got a special yet short sighting of 3 harbour porpoises, always very shy but very cute none the less.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out under calm seas and cloudy skies straight towards the open waters. It didn't took long until we came across a pod of 6 white-beaked dolphins. Big, happy , and most of them with the nice white stripe on there beak. They where pretty playful and curious of our existence. We continued our journey and soon after we came across a pod of 4 harbor porpoise. We stayed with them until a big blow caught our attention. We set course towards it and it was a humpback whale . A gentle giant  rolling and fluke diving peacefully in front of our boat. What an amazing show. After half an hour of enjoying this animal we started our way back to Reykjavik port. On our way back we spotted a pod of 4 more white- beaked dolphins that made our tour even better.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00

Report from Eldey: On the last tour of the day, the sea conditions continued to be perfect, allowing us to spot anything that would pop out of the water! Not long after we passed Grottar lighthouse, we spotted a pod of 4 harbour porpoises, happily passing by and probably feeding. Right after, we spotted a lone minke whale feeding as well! It was a lovely sighting, as it popped up right next to us once. Then, we continued our way and saw a dark back in the distance. It was definitely a bigger back, and we spotted not only one, but 2 humpback whales! They were together first, but then got separated. They both started lunge feeding. There was another 2 humpbacks in the distance and we decided top check it out. One of them was showing off its pectoral fin in the air, while rolling and feeding. We could even track it because of the birds following it! It was fantastic to see them sharing the food! We then started heading back to Reykjavik, extremely happy with so many good views of these fantastic animals!
