Report from Eldey: Conditions were rainy and windy today, but this did not stop us from having a spectacular tour. We sailed out in the bay for some time, through fog and rain before finding our first and only whale of the trip. This was a humpback whale, relaxing at the surface, we stayed with the whale for quite some time and at a certain point came really close to the boat, it was amazing. Later the whale came up to the surface right under a puffin, we assume he got quite the scare! Finally the whale pooped right before going for a dive, we saw a thick reddish brown cloud, indicating a diet of fish and krill probably. This poop is an essential fertilizer for phytoplankton, necessary to keep the food chain moving. Yet again, an incredible tour, unconditioned by the weather.

Report from Hafsúlan: We bundled up in our raingear and headed out, ready to face the weather and sea conditions. We soon spotted a blow ahead, the blow of a humpback whale. This individual treated us to many majestic fluke dives, and it seemed to be quite curious, as it swam rather close to us multiple times. We got to see the dark body of this whale through the surface, as well as the bright pectoral fins shining through. Also, a couple of times we were lucky enough to see the little knobs in its head as it swam right to us. What a nice way to start our day!

Report from Eldey: The rain was still pouring down but the sea conditions were luckily calm enough for everyone to be comfortable. Regardless of the weather, we managed to have amazing sightings as we saw 2 humpback whales showing unique behaviours! The first whale treated us to a sequence of a full breach, followed by 3 head slaps and they did this 2 times over! The second whale was travelling at first, treating us to many fluke dives until they seemingly reached their destination and went over to feeding behaviour. We then were lucky enough to see a couple lungefeeds and even 3 circular bubblenets! This tour showed us that despite the rain we can still have an amazing whale watching experience!

Report from Elding: In the afternoon, we headed out into the bay, once again braving the wind and rain ahead. On our way out, we saw many interesting seabirds, such as the adorable little Atlantic puffins, and the majestic Northern gannets. Although we gave it our best effort, and circled promising areas many times, we did not spot any signs of whales nearby, and as our time began running out, we headed for the harbour and handed out complimentary tickets, so that our lovely passengers may come back to spot some whales with us another day.

Report from Eldey: conditions worsened in the afternoon, with heavy winds and rain all tour. Nevertheless, the whales did not care one bit, and after about 30 minutes we spotted our first species, a minke whale! The elusive whale came very close which was great to see. As we continued we finally saw blows in the distance, through heavy winds and rain, we found a humpback whale. This individual was very relaxed until it started peduncle throwing and then tail slapping, before turning around and pooping at the surface. We watched it a few more times until a last fluke dive, and it was goodbye from us. We headed back home with big smiles and drenched overalls! Another successful tour.

Report from Elding I: We were beyond thrilled that the rain had let up for us this evening, it was much easier to brave the waves this way. Little did we know what we were in for, as the ocean had other plans for us, and they did not include us staying dry. As we were heading out, the wind had picked up, kicking up some gnarly waves, so we had quite the rollercoaster ride! Although it made for challenging spotting conditions, we kept an eye out for wildlife while enjoying the ride, with our super adventurous passengers, who were laughing along with us. We were showered on the mid deck, getting a truly immersive experience! As time began running out, and spotting conditions worsened, we began heading for the harbour, and of course, we handed out complimentary tickets so our guests may come back to see whales with us another day. What a wild ride!
