Report from Eldey: As we set out on this gloomy morning, nature proved to be in fact unpredictable. In the middle of our introduction and safety speech, a splash caught our attention. After a quick circle with the boat, a minke whale popped up! This beautiful baleen whale surfaced quite a few times and pretty close to the boat! We followed it around the islands outside the harbour for a bit, before deciding to continue our adventure in Faxafloí Bay. Fog came rolling in, but in a clear patch, we found a pod of white-beaked dolphins! Around 5 dolphins were playing in the waves and coming very close to the boat. We could see the colours through the surface, which is always very exciting! We circled back to the harbour, spotting the last of the Atlantic puffins before they leave and observed the impressive plunge dives of the Northern gannets. What a amazing start of our day!

Report from Eldey: We headed out into cloudy skies, fog, and rolling waves, not knowing what the day would bring. After a long search, we finally spotted the unmistakable blow of a humpback whale. The wait was more than worth it. The humpback was actively feeding and repeatedly came remarkably close to the boat. On one occasion, it came so close that we couldn’t even see it from the top deck as it passed alongside us. In the same area, our captain spotted a minke whale, twice at the surface but at some distance. It was much more elusive, appearing only briefly before disappearing again into the waves and fog. After waiting for a while, as we could not see the minke more, we decided to leave the area. It was a challenging day on the water, but seeing the humpback so close made the search completely worthwhile.

Report from Eldey: We headed out into the same cloudy and foggy skies of this morning but also with the same motivation for a new adventure at the sea. After some searching, we were rewarded with a beautiful humpback whale relatively close. The whale was actively feeding, repeatedly surfacing and moving through the area, giving us some wonderful views despite the challenging conditions. It was accompanied by a large number of seabirds, all gathered around the same feeding activity.Suddenly, the whale began to throw water into the air with its massive tail, a fascinating behaviour that that they used to communicate. What was it trying to tell us? We don’t know, but it was absolutely amazing to witness such a remarkable behaviour. After a while we left the area sailing south searching for more cetaceans at the surface.

Report from Eldey: The skies were still gloomy as we sailed out but that did not stop us to, right of the bat, find a minke whale right outside the harbour! It was a busy individual feeding right next to Engey going back and forth eratically. We stayed with this individual for quite a bit until we were satisfied with this start of the tour. We then went onwards, out into bay and found a humpback whale! This individual was feeding as well and so we got treated to many surfaces and flukedives. In the midst of it all, we even got a peduncle throw!  After a good long time with this humpback it was time for us to turn around and call it a day, ending a foggy but fun afternoon out!
