Report from Eldey: We set sail with a bit of rain, so we bundled up and set sail. As soon as we went further out into the bay the rain ceased and we even got some sunshine breaking through the clouds! Not to far out into the bay we spotted the blow of one humpback whale! This individual showed off their fluke right away! After multiple surface sequences and flukes aplenty, we spotted another blow in the distance and went to check it out. It was another solitary humpback whale! This individual surfaced right in front of us and we could see their entire body through the surface of the water! It was amazing to watch as their pectoral fins propelled them down below. After a wonderful encounter it was time to set our sights back to port. On the way we spotted two solitary minke whales! Conditions were very calm which allowed us to easily admire a few surface sequences before continuing. With two humpbacks and two minkes spotted, wonderfully calm seas and even some sunshine, we started the day off smiling!

Report from Eldey: The overcast but dry conditions with a slight breeze from the north made for a perfect Icelandic late summer day. After a short time we spotted the first blow of a humpback whale on the horizon. We got closer and the animal seemed not to mind us in the slightest as it was diving for food. We spend some time with it and then continued onwards as another blow was spotted a few hundred meters further. Also this humpback whale was busy traveling and even though we got closer it managed to always come up behind us made us turn quite a lot to get a good look. On our way back we met our fat friend from earlier and this time were surprised with a full breach out of nowhere! This shows that with whales you have to be ready and everything can happen at any time. A great finale for this wonderful day!
