Report from Eldey: Cloudy skies welcomed us this morning, with light drizzles here and there and progressively stronger winds. However, this did not hinder us one bit, we sailed out into the bay in search of cetaceans. On our way out we spotted a few harbour porpoises, about 5 individuals. As we kept going we eventually slowed down around an area where another boat had seen a whale. We waited a little bit but eventually a big blow burst through the surface and we witnessed our first humpback whale, this individual was diving for quite some time, after seeing it surface a few times we headed out to look for more. Only a couple miles further we found another humpback whale, doing shorter dives and even coming very close to us, incredible to see! As we waited between dives we caught a glimpse of a breach off in the distance. Another humpback whale had leaped out of the water and left a huge splash. We waited in the area and met this individual coming up to breath but the breach was a one off unfortunately. We headed back home very happy and very well informed about whales, dolphins, porpoises, and the ocean around Iceland.

Report from Eldey: We had a little bit of a rocky boat today and the sky was grey, but this did not stop us from having a good time. We did not have to go far until we had a humpback whale. It came up close to us several times and showed us its beautiful tail fluke over and over again. The white pectoral fins were clearly visible through the water. We had some nice encounters with this individual until we decided to carry on. We stumbled upon another individual. This one was a bit of a diver and stayed down for quite some time, however it did show up close to the boat several times, stunning all the passengers. What a lovely day out at sea!

Report from Eldey: The wind picked up significantly during our evening tour, however, the rain had ceased. We were extremely lucky, as we immediately found a humpback whale just outside the harbour, close to the lighthouse. This whale was feeding on schoolimng fish most likely and we watched as it dove over and over again, lunging just under the surface. It was an incredible sight,  but one that had to end eventually. We said our goodbyes and sailed on to scan other areas. On our way some of us spotted a very elusive minke whale that did not stay at the surface very long. We kept going and to everyone's surprise we spotted two curious harbour porpoises which swam quite close to the boat for some time. These shy creatures are usually so difficult to see, making the sighting extra special. As the weather picked up we returned home, happy and super informed about the cetaceans of Iceland.
