Few natural phenomena are as mesmerising as the aurora borealis. These shifting curtains of colour sweep across the polar skies, painting them in hues of green, pink, and violet. While their appearance may seem unpredictable, scientists have developed ways to understand when and where they might occur and by studying the activity levels, we can estimate the likelihood of seeing them.

Report from Elding: Tonight´s tour started on flat glassy sea and under crystal clear skies. The aurora index had promised a good night and it didn't disappoint. Within minutes of starting the engines the lights had already begun to stir above us curling into color before we´d even left the harbor. By the twenty minute mark the whole sky had opened up deep greens with hints of red and shapes unlike anything i´d seen i a while. At one point there were more than three district bands stretching from north to south simultaneously dancing across the skies. It was one of those nights that went well beyond expectations .
