CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This grey Tuesday morning we sailed out into Faxafloi for our whale watching adventure. There was quite long swell so we could feel some movement though apart from that it was a calm day. We sailed for bit before spotting a blow on the horizon! When we got closer we realised it was 2 humpback whales! Then some splashes! There was also a pod of 6 white beaked dolphins! The humpbacks and dolphins were probably feeding together as we could see the humpbacks rolling just beneath the surface. We were really lucky to see both species really nice and close to the boat. We also got to see some exciting different behaviours from both species. One dolphin was full of energy this morning and was jumping out of the water repeatedly. Then, we even saw one of the humpbacks spyhopping! After a while, it seems like the cetaceans had eaten all the fish. The dolphins swam away into the distance and we stayed with the humpbacks. When they lifted up their flukes, we were able to identify these individuals as Cheeseburger and Tomato Soup! They are two individuals that we have seen very frequently over the summer. We then started our journey back and on our way, we spotted another pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins that played and surfed in our wake as we continued towards land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We set off once more into the unknown and onto our adventure! We barely left the harbour walls and already spotted 3 harbour porpoises! They can be quite shy though these ones were swimming and feeding next to us on our sail out. We ended up seeing 3 more but continued on as we were still very close to land. On the horizon we spotted a black back surfacing a few times. We had clearly found a lunch buffet as it seemed a lot of life was in this spot. We saw 2 minke whales, one of which surfaced only a few meters from the boat! We then also saw bigger blows and saw a pair of humpback whales! This was a different pair to the morning! These two were extremely calm and likely resting. We could see their pectoral fins clearly through the water so it was perfect to know when they would come up to the surface and get our cameras ready! We stayed with these two for a bit and then even had 2 beautiful fluke dives. As they seemed to be resting, when they went down again we decided to head on. We ended up seeing a 2-3 more minkes and 4 porpoises on th way back and then had another minke right outside the harbour! This was one probably the best minke of the tour as it came quite close to the boat and in this calm sea was very here! Then the 4th rainbow of the tour came up and it looked like it was ending on the minke! What a marvelous tour!
