Again the weather was lovely although the wind was picking up slightly. We headed back to the same area we were before and spotted several groups of Harbour Porpoises while we searched for the Minke whales. Nature can behave in mysterious ways though, for everything seemed to be very calm and no signs of life out on the bay. We made a decision to go out very far and try our luck. We searched for 2 hours and didn't spot anything. As we were beginning to head back we got an interesting call from a passing boat. They said they had seen a large whale breaching, and also spotted a big blow. We turned the boat around and began searching in the area they had described. Surely enough we spotted a big blow 2 miles away! We headed closer and saw it again, now everyone was getting pretty excited! Just as we were preparing to see whether this whale was a Minke or something else, the whale BREACHED just 200m in front of us. It was a Humpback whale!! We haven't seen many of them this summer so it was a real treat!! Everyone was looking in the right direction so everyone saw this awesome sight!! We stayed with the Humpback for about half an hour watching it come to the surface, seeing the blow of the whale and watching it raise the flukes from the sea as it went down for a dive. A really fantastic trip with some lucky passengers :)
