Tour at 20.30

What a nice tour! The midnight sun was very beautiful this lovely afternoon where we headed out to Akurey. Not so many puffins at home tonight but we saw at least few of them flying around us. Then we headed out to search for the whales. We spotted a big blow far far away, and when we got closer we could smell something really bad! And then suddenly, two minke whales came up. We followed them for a while but then we decided to head further out. Again we spotted two other minke whales swimming just next to the boat! But then we spotted some splashed further out. When we came there we saw breaching white beaked dolphins!!! WOW they were just jumping and jumping and jumping and doing circles in the air just in front of the boat!!! This was just amazing and everybody left the boat in Reykjavik harbour with a big smile!

The sun was still there when we headed out to Faxaflói bay. Soon we spotted a very nice minke whale. It surfaced many times just in front of the boat! We decided to scan the area we were in and soon we found other minke whale! Also surfacing just in front of the boat! We spotted at least 4 other minke whales all around us! We ended our tour by visiting the puffin island. A very nice tour!

Tour at 14:00

Again an exceptional tour. Started at Akurey and saw many Puffins flying around the island and sitting on the waters surface. Then we headed out to Faxaflói to see the whales. Must of seen between 8-12 Minke Whales on this tour they were surfacing all around the boat and at different distances, some 40-50 meters from us and others far far in the distance. The first whale was the highlight though and we stayed with it (and it stayed with us) for about 20-30 minutes. It surfaced only 5 meters from our boat and we got a great look at the whale as a whole, snout to tail, absolutely incredible.

Tour at 13:00

Our first stop was at Akurey the puffin island and there we could enjoy lots of puffins. Further out in the bay in beautiful weather we found an area with lots of minke whales surfacing many times slowly and close to our boat, 10-20 meters so we could have a good look at the animals quite often. Then we spotted small splashes from two harbour porpoises and they were in a good mood, swimming around the boat and we could follow them with our eyes underneath the water surface. Very enjoyable tour.

WHAT AN AMAZING TOUR!! This tour was just incredible. We started the tour by visiting the puffins. Lot of puffins at home this morning so it was a very nice start of the tour. Then we found our first minke whale very early in our tour! It came up a bit far away so we headed straight to that direction. When we got there we saw at least 6 or 7 minke whales!! We were waiting for the whales to come up when suddenly a minke whale came up just 2 meters in front of the boat!!! It was rolling there, surface feeding and then rolling some more, just in front of us!!!! This was just amazing. We could see the white belly, the fluke and everything! Then few minuets later another minke whale came up many many times just in front of the boat! What amazing tour!

Tour at 09:00 Perfect whale-weather this morning! Sunshine, smooth surface. Leaving port, a huge yacht of a Russian billionaire was docking near Harpa in the old Reykjavík harbour. But of course, we were looking for a different kind of giants. After a really nice visit to Puffin island - all the flowers there in full bloom - it wasn't until long that we spotted the first Minke whales. They were SURFACE-FEEDING in the middle of three massive flocks of feeding birds right next to each other!! Must have been at least 5 different animals in spot, circling the boat for 20 minutes. Checking out another bird flock, we saw more Minkes as well as Arctic Skuas fighting for fish with the sea-gulls. On the way home, another Minke, just 5m next to our boat, just out of the blue. They just didn't want to let us leave!!

Birds seen on tour: Puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes, black backed gulls, guillemots, big group of shearwaters, strom petrel, gannets, artic Skuas
